TOMATo licensing

The licensing model is in preparation and is not yet implemented in the application. The rules below describe the planned behavior for self-hosted installations.

Try Free

Free can be used without a license file. In that case, Free limits apply and a license watermark is shown in the application. A free license file can optionally be requested online. It is bound to one installation and remains valid permanently. It removes only the license watermark and does not increase Free limits.

  • One tenant
  • 200 active systems
  • 10 active users
  • Unlimited relationships

Pro and Enterprise

Pro and Enterprise are available on request. Core product features are included in every plan; single sign-on (SSO) is reserved for Enterprise. A license file contains the approved plan and its entitlements. Active owners/admins can read and replace the installation-wide license file in settings; changes apply to every tenant in the installation.

License status and grace periods

  • Free without a license file: usable indefinitely with Free limits; the license watermark is on. There is no expiration notice.
  • Valid Free license file: valid indefinitely, with the same Free limits as without a file and no license watermark.
  • Valid Pro/Enterprise license: the approved plan features and limits apply; the license watermark is off.
  • 90-day grace period after Pro/Enterprise expiration: paid features and limits remain valid for 90 days; the license watermark stays off. Afterwards, the Free feature set and Free limits apply unless a valid replacement license is installed.
  • Existing installation after upgrade: a one-time 90-day transition period starts at the first qualifying startup after the upgrade. Its existing feature and watermark state remains during this period. Afterwards, the Free fallback applies unless a valid license file is installed.

Restarting, restoring tenant data, logging in, or replacing a license file does not extend a running period. Restoring a complete database backup can restore the license state saved in that backup.

Restrictions after falling back to Free

Licensing does not delete data or put TOMATo into a general read-only mode. Reading, editing, deleting, and exporting existing data remain possible subject to the user's existing permissions. Only a positive change that would exceed installation-wide Free limits—such as creating or activating more systems, users, or tenants—is blocked. Existing overages remain; relationships are not limited. Plan-specific features fall back to the Free feature set, which does not include SSO. After the paid grace period or legacy transition period, users must acknowledge the licensing notice at every interactive login; they can then continue working.

Limits apply across the installation: one tenant, 200 active systems, and 10 active users. Active owners/admins can read or replace the installation-wide license file and status in their tenant settings. Other roles have no access.

License watermark

Free without a valid license file always shows a license watermark. A valid optional Free license removes only that watermark and does not change limits. A valid paid license and its 90-day grace period have no license watermark. It returns after fallback to Free; after the legacy transition period, it is shown if no valid license file is installed. It is separate from the tenant-level visualization watermark setting and cannot be disabled through that setting. The first implementation phase covers the app interface and visible 2D/3D visualizations, not printing or exports.

Verification and privacy

The license file is verified locally. The installation does not require an ongoing connection to the licensing service and sends no automatic license telemetry. The planned Free request form collects name, email, company, role/function, company size, expected system and user counts, and the installation ID. The form is not available yet; its purpose, retention period, and deletion process will be published before requests open.
